WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DROPS SECOND STRAIGHT

Winter has finally arrived in eastern Pennsylvania, and unfortunately for the Muhlenberg women’s basketball team the cold weather has brought cold shooting.

The Mules shot just 23.7 percent from the field and dropped their second in a row, 49-34 at Dickinson. The point total was the lowest for the team in nine years.

Muhlenberg (13-3, 8-3) did not play poorly defensively, holding the Red Devils (13-3, 8-2) to 30-percent shooting and five second-half field goals. Down 26-19 at halftime, the Mules held Dickinson scoreless for the first six minutes of the second half, but sliced only four points off the deficit.

Muhlenberg got back to within four, 32-28, on a three-pointer by senior Emily Wright with 11:40 to go, but then went scoreless for the next eight minutes. The Red Devils are ranked seventh in Division III in scoring defense.

Senior Meghan Courtney led the Mules with 11 points and four blocked shots.
