ROUGH START TO NEW YEAR FOR MEN’S BASKETBALL

Jimmie Riggins The Muhlenberg men’s basketball team committed 25 turnovers in its first game of 2007, falling at home to local rival Moravian, 80-61.

The Mules (4-6) trailed by three points, 31-28, at halftime and cut the gap to one by making the first bucket of the second half. The Greyhounds (5-6) ran off the next eight points, but Muhlenberg responded with five in a row to close to within 39-35.

Moravian answered with a 17-5 run to open up a 16-point lead midway through the second half. The Greyhounds eventually led by as many as 24 points.

Senior Chris Huber led all scorers with 14 points.

The Mules finished the season only 1-5 in non-conference games, but are still 3-1 in the Centennial Conference. They resume CC play Saturday at Gettysburg.

Senior Jimmie Riggins was 2-of-3 from three-point range, improving his season percentage to .583. He scored 10 points and pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.
