MENS BASKETBALL DROUGHT CONTINUES
The Muhlenberg mens basketball is happy to say goodbye to the month of January. The Mules completed a 1-9 month with a 54-39 loss at Haverford. They shot just 32.6 percent en route to their lowest point total in 25 years. Senior Chris Pothering reached a career milestone when he made his 100th career three-pointer midway through the second half. Senior Chris Huber, who achieved that milestone earlier in the season, scored a team-high 10 points. |
Wrestling Thwarted in Bid to Unseat Bears
The Ursinus wrestling team broke a 6-6 tie by winning five straight bouts and went on to defeat Muhlenberg, 22-16, in a battle of teams that came in undefeated in the Centennial Conference.
After his opponent chose the down position to start the second period, Tartar needed only 26 seconds to record his 12th pin of the season. The Bears (12-0, 5-0), ranked 30th in Division III, extended their CC dual-meet winning streak to 27. The four-time defending CC champions are undefeated in their last 23 dual meets overall. Decisions by sophomores Billy Hall and Rob Kein at 133 and 141, respectively, negated an Ursinus fall in the first bout. At 149, however, a late takedown was the difference in a 3-2 Bear win. Although the Mules (4-3-1, 4-1) scored the first takedown at 157, 174 and 184, they wound up losing all three bouts. Senior Matt Loesch ended the Ursinus run with a 14-0 major decision at 197, and junior Joe Tartar closed the match with a pin. Hall, Kein, Loesch and Tartar are all 5-0 in CC competition this year. |
