IN TWO POLLS |
Although it has played just once in the last 26 days, the Muhlenberg
womens basketball team has been moving up the polls.
The Mules are ranked 21st in the USA Today ESPN Division III poll, selected by members of the Womens Basketball Coaches Association, and are in the top 25 in the D3hoops.com poll for the first time this season, at No. 23. With a 9-0 record, Muhlenberg is one of 11 remaining undefeated teams in Division III. The others are Bowdoin, Brandeis, Chicago, Emmanuel, Hamilton, Hope, Howard Payne, Maine Maritime, New York University and Rochester. By the time the Mules next take the court, Saturday at 4:00 against Haverford, there will be at least two fewer unbeatens. Brandeis plays at Rochester Friday night, and Bowdoin has an early Saturday afternoon game at Emmanuel. Muhlenberg also appears several times among the first NCAA statistical rankings of the 2006-07 season. Senior Emily Wright is ninth in Division III in three-point field goal percentage (.509) and 14th in three-point field goals per game (3.0). She is one of only three players in the country in the top 15 in both categories. As a team, the Mules are 14th in three-point percentage (.393), 22nd in scoring margin (18.1 points per game) and 30th in field-goal percentage defense (.331).
