WRESTLING SPLITS
The Muhlenberg wrestling team closed out its Centennial Conference dual-match season by splitting at Washington & Lee. The Mules (5-4-1, 5-2) lost to the hosts, 18-16, before rebounding to topple McDaniel, 34-16. Washington & Lee also stunned Ursinus, 21-17, to snap the Bears 27-match CC win streak. Sophomore Billy Hall (133) and senior Matt Loesch (197) both ran their CC dual records to a perfect 7-0 with a pair of wins. Hall pinned both of his opponents to reach the 20-win mark for the season, and Loesch notched a pair of decisions to remain undefeated (12-0) this year and finish his career 24-0 in CC dual meets. Junior Joseph DeCampo (149) totaled 15 takedowns in winning both of his bouts by major decision. He now has 50 wins for his career. Sophomore Matt Horn (184) also was 2-0 on the day, needing just 1:26 to pin his McDaniel opponent. |
Super Bowl weekend turned into a super pole weekend for freshman Alex
Working with a new pole, Faust cleared 11 feet at East Stroudsburgs DeSchriver Invitational, adding a foot to the school record she set in her first career meet and tied the next two weeks. The mark was within one inch of the Centennial Conference pole vault record and within two inches of the NCAA provisional standard. Faust (who also anchored the 4x200-meter relay team that improved its ECAC-qualifying time by nearly a second) was one of two Mules to finish first in an event. Sophomore David Chorney took first and qualified for ECACs in the 3,000 meters. His time of 8:51.84 was the second-fastest in team history. Senior Matthew Sallese improved his personal record in the shot put from 45-7¼ to 47-¼, just short of the ECAC-qualifying standard of 47-1.
