CARTER A FIRST-TEAM ALL-AMERICAN
Muhlenberg sophomore Joshua Carter has been named to the Hewlett-Packard
Division III All-America Football Team, selected by sports information
directors of Division III institutions, as the first-team kick returner.
Carter also was a first-team selection, as well as specialist player of
the year, on the Football Gazette All-America team. Carter led all
of Division III with 1,318 return yards in 1999 and brought back four
kicks (three kickoffs and one punt) for touchdowns. He
set an unofficial Division III
record with 981 kickoff return yards and ranked second in the country
with a school-record average of 35.0 yards per return. Carter, who also
averaged 10.2 yards on 33 punt returns, joins fellow receivers John
Sartori (1979) and Rob Lokerson (1993)
as Muhlenbergs only first-team All-Americans of the last half century.
He also was one of three Muhlenberg representatives, along with
senior wide receiver Kenyamo McFarlane and junior quarterback Michael
McCabe, on the ECAC South All-Star Team. McFarlane made the squad for the
second straight year after catching a team-leading 51 passes for 886
yards and 11 touchdowns. McCabe set school records for passing yards
(2,560), touchdowns (26) and completion percentage (.603) and had two
400-yard games.
