Friday, December 3 WRESTLING competed at Lebanon Valleys Petrofes Invitational. Three Muhlenberg wrestlers are alive, two in the championship semifinals, after the first day of the Petrofes Invitational. Top-seeded sophomore Bill Holsinger won his only bout at 149 after a first-round bye to reach the semis. Sophomore Tyler Cathey, unseeded at heavyweight, defeated the third and sixth seeds to earn his berth in the semifinals. Freshman Matt Arellano, seeded seventh at 157, pinned his first opponent but lost in the quarters. Click here for Muhlenberg results.
Saturday, December 4 WOMENS BASKETBALL Franklin & Marshall 68, Muhlenberg 61. In its Centennial Conference opener, Muhlenberg held an 11-point lead in the final minute of the first half, but was outscored 45-31 in the second half and lost for the first time this season. Senior Caressa Lynch scored 11 of her career-high 17 points in the first half to help the Mules open up the big lead. Muhlenberg rallied from an 8-point second-half deficit to tie the score with 5:31 left on a three-pointer by sophomore Amanda Spengler, but the Diplomats scored the next 7 points to take command. Sophomore Melissa Leahy had a career-high 8 rebounds. Click here for box score. MENS BASKETBALL Franklin & Marshall 71, Muhlenberg 70. The Mules nearly came all the way back from an early 14-point deficit, but lost to the fifth-ranked Diplomats in their Centennial Conference opener. Trailing 38-26 at halftime, Muhlenberg scored the first 9 points of the second half and the game was tight the rest of the way. The Mules trailed by one, 69-68, with 5 seconds left, when senior Matt Schneider's 15-foot baseline jumper went in and out. Schneider played a spectacular game with a career-high 24 points and 9 rebounds. Sophomore Mark Lesko scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half to lead the comeback bid. Sophomore Michael Barletta hit double figures for the second straight game with 12 points. Click here for box score. WRESTLING finished 14th at Lebanon Valleys Petrofes Invitational. An injury-depleted Muhlenberg team had two wrestlers earn places at Lebanon Valley. Sophomore Tyler Cathey, unseeded at heavyweight, took the field by storm, defeating the sixth, third and second seeds before losing a 2-point decision in the championship bout. Sophomore Bill Holsinger was seeded first at 149 but lost by one point to the eventual champion in the semifinals. He won his final two bouts in the consolation bracket to finish third.
