Muhlenberg Ice Hockey

The origin of Mules ice hockey began in the late 1960’s at the old Ice Palace Rink on Hanover Avenue in Allentown. Back then, the opponents were teams such as Moravian College, Lafayette College, Lehigh University and some local men’s league teams.  The beginning days were forged by these young men.  Built from a love and desire to play the greatest game on earth, these men built the foundation for what today has become a prospering program.  Their desire to succeed and play hockey for THEIR college keeps those that have followed inspired to continue the proud tradition established over forty years ago.

It’s that tradition we wish to honor and maintain.  Today, we are proud to wear the same Red and Grey colors the founding Mules pulled over their heads so many years ago. We recognize those men and all those who came after who helped built what today we call Muhlenberg College Ice Hockey.

Muhlenberg Ice Hockey is always looking for ways to keep in contact with its alumni.  We are looking to share the memories and experiences that we all had while playing for this team.  We would like to share some of those memories with our alumni and other hockey fans on this site as we relive the past and hope for a bright future.  If you’re interested in sharing your memories or joining the alumni network, just let us know by submitting your information to

This year, we will reestablish the annual Alumni Game.  It will be held on Saturday, September 13th at our home rink in Allentown, Pa. We welcome ALL former alumni to participate in the game.  If you’re interested, please contact former Mule Brad Zatcoff at  The games have always been a hit with those that attend.

ALL our players pay a fee each season to participate. This fee is determined by the amount of support it receives.  This support is used to subsidize costs such as ice time, bus transportation and uniforms.  Without the generous support of our friends, the program would cease to exist.

If you wish to donate, please contact Ms. Jane Schubert, the TEAM Advisor at

The alumni are also invited to support the team in other ways such as organizing events with current players and alumni or connecting players with job and internship opportunities.  If you’re interested in helping out, please contact Ms. Schubert.

Alumni Notes
  David Greenspan '83 - 9/30/04

I think it's great what you have done for the team and I only wish you were around in the early 80's. Playing hockey was fun. Most of the players were made up of ATO members although I was one of the few exceptions.

I wish I could play in the alumni game, but I live in CA. Still playing hockey twice a week in Oakland and San Jose. I captain the team in Oakland-that way they can't kick me off for lack of talent. If you play video games, I am actually in the 989 Studios/Sony Face Off 2001 or 2 edition (Curtis Joseph on the cover) and I am listed as Hans Greenspan on the German national team. I also appear in the Midway hockey game (Stevens and Pronger covers) under the Midway team.

Keep up the great work. All the best.

I played for Muhlenberg Ice Hockey from 1985 until 1989. At that time the league consisted of a few college teams and men's league teams in the same league. Men's teams were Stahleys Bar, Easton News, Chiefs to name a few. We actually won the league at least two years, but to tell you the truth it is all a blur now. I graduated Muhlenberg and am now a practicing Nephrologist in the Lehigh Valley and live here with my family. I am still very involved in ice hockey and play Sunday mornings at the Skate Zone, actually with some of the guys that were on some of the men's league teams we played. I also play in the men's leagues at the Skate Zone.

Thanks and good luck this season,

There are lots of Alumni from Muhlenberg Ice Hockey.  Send us information about what you're doing after Muhlenberg and we'll post it on this page.  We're especially interested if you are still involved with hockey.
