As part of the effort to move Muhlenberg to the next level of excellence, the College has developed the Legacy Scholarship program. This program will increase the number of endowed scholarships that Muhlenberg offers to deserving students each year. Alumni, parents and friends who wish to participate in the Legacy Scholarship program are asked to make:
- A four-year commitment of at least $1,500 per year to a general named scholarship,
- A commitment to establish an endowed scholarship fund with either a current of deferred gift. The endowment gift should correspond to the amount of the current annual commitment. For example, a four-year commitment to a $1,500 current scholarship would require a gift of $30,000 to generate approximately the same yearly income (up to 5% of the College's endowment is distributed each year.
As a Legacy Scholarship donor, your annual outright gift will be awarded to a specific student recipient each year. The program is renewable; once the four-year commitment has been satisfied, you may continue to fund the scholarship on an annual basis. Once the endowment fund is fully established, the scholarship will be awarded annually from the fund's earnings. For funds that reach the $50,000 level and above, you may specify preferences for the type of student to whom the endowed scholarship may be awarded.
As a Legacy Scholarship donor, you will be invited to attend Muhlenberg's annual scholarship recognition event. At the event, you will have an opportunity to meet your student recipient. In addition, Legacy Scholarship donors will be listed in various College publications. You'll also enjoy member benefits for the Henry Melchior Muhlenberg Society and, if you make an endowment gift through your estate plan, the Circle of 1848.
As a member of the Henry Melchior Muhlenberg Society (HMMS), which recognizes annual gifts of $1,500 or more, you will be invited to attend the HMMS Homecoming Reception and the HMMS Reunion Weekend Reception. You'll also receive College updates from the president.
Members of the Circle of 1848 receive a lapel pin, Circle mailings and a listing in various College publications. In addition, members receive invitations to the College's traditional Advent Candlelight Carol Service and a Summer Music Theatre production.
