Jenny McLarin ’86 Named Director of Alumni Relations
February 3, 2009
Muhlenberg College announces the hiring of Jennifer R. McLarin ’86, currently the College’s associate director of admission, as the new director of alumni relations.
“I am so delighted that Jenny will be joining our team,” says Connie Harris, vice president of development and alumni relations. “She brings 20 years of strong experience to this senior role as an alumna who already has an ‘insider’ relationship with the College.”
McLarin graduated from Muhlenberg College in 1986 with a B.A. in English. "I grew up in Princeton, N.J. and attended Princeton High School," says McLarin. "A colleague of my father's recommended Muhlenberg, describing it as a 'hidden gem with a fantastic English department.' Like many of our prospective students, I set one foot on campus and was immediately hooked - in fact, Muhlenberg was the only college I applied to!
"My four years at Muhlenberg were among the most special of my life, and shaped who I am today in an extremely positive way," she continues. "The excellent writing skills I developed as an English major at Muhlenberg have served me well throughout my career. I still have close relationships with friends I made as a member of the Muhlenberg Theatre Association and The Weekly staff."
McLarin worked in the fields of public relations and marketing in St. Louis, Mo. and Chicago, Ill. She returned to Muhlenberg in 2002. As a dynamic member of the senior management team of the office of admission, she actively worked with students and their families in interviews and information sessions, influencing and encouraging them to select Muhlenberg College."Returning to campus to join the Admissions operation felt like coming home," she says.
While associate director of admission, McLarin oversaw the creation and publication of the annual “Career Survey” brochure, which highlights what Muhlenberg graduates are doing one year out of school, and she interviewed faculty and wrote copy for “Great Teachers/Great Courses” brochures.
"Playing a part in enrolling future classes of Muhlenberg students was tremendously rewarding; now I can continue those relationships indefinitely, as well as connecting with alumni from all generations." As director of alumni relations, McLarin will be responsible for planning and implementing programs and activities that engage the College's alumni with their alma mater in ways that strengthen Muhlenberg and enhance the lives of its students, faculty, staff and graduates.
"As an alumna, the Alumni Director position has a very special and personal significance to me," says McLarin. "I am excited and eager to serve the College and its alumni in this new capacity!"
“Jenny is an outstanding professional whose commitment to excellence will strengthen the alumni relations and reunion fundraising areas. She brings an incredible passion for the highest and best interests of Muhlenberg College and all constituencies,” says Harris.
