Summer is often the time for traditional day students and adult learners to take advantage of internships. Here is some helpful information about internships. You may also want to follow the link to the Muhlenberg College Internship Manual. Individualized instruction in the form of internships, independent study, practica, and research are popular summer study options available to students seeking a degree from Muhlenberg who have already successfully completed 16 course units. Each individualized instruction experience must be designed in consultation with a faculty supervisor, while internships and practica require an on-site supervisor as well.
Normally, no more than one course unit is awarded for each experience. Furthermore, it is expected that each experience should constitute no less than 126 total "on task" hours. No more than a total of 4 course units may be earned through any type of individualized instruction to meet the 34 course unit degree requirement except as required by special programs. No individualized instruction experience may be used to satisfy a general academic requirement.
Independent study and research courses are assigned letter grades, A through F. Internships are graded on a pass-fail basis except when the experience is required by your major field of study. Internship experiences required by a major program are considered practica and are assigned a letter grade. For all internships and practica, the on-site supervisor for your experience is required to submit a written evaluation to your faculty supervisor who is responsible for assigning a grade.
All individualized instruction experiences (internships, independent study, practica, and research) must include an academic project to be defined by and submitted to the faculty supervisor for evaluation.
