A lma Mater. Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary defines it simply: “1: a school, college or university which one has attended or from which one has graduated; 2: the song or hymn of a school, college, or university.”
I would venture to say that for many of us, the meaning is much more significant. In fact, in the few short months since I returned to Muhlenberg, I have had the pleasure of meeting countless alumni who treasure their Muhlenberg experience as much as, if not more than, I do. I didn’t know that was possible.
Every time I meet a new alumnus, one word keeps popping into my head – exceptional. Alumni from Muhlenberg College are exceptional people filled with a passion for life and pride for their alma mater. I’m finding that pride in our alma mater transcends gender, age, race and religion; I’m constantly reminded that alumni, students, parents and friends are truly a family – Muhlenberg’s family.
As the director of alumni relations, I’ve challenged myself to get to know my Muhlenberg family. The Office of Alumni Relations is constantly looking for ways that we can reach out to you. I encourage you to keep an eye on the calendar of alumni events, and find a way to get involved. Join us on campus or in your area, send us a note to let us know what’s new in your life and what types of things we can do to keep you connected to Muhlenberg.
I know there are a lot of exceptional people in this family of ours and I look forward to meeting you, to hearing your stories and sharing your passion for our alma mater.
