Cardinal Key Induction

The Cardinal Key Society was founded on May 28, 1940, by six members of the class of 1942 to serve Muhlenberg College and extend goodwill to visitors. Early activities included entertaining and guiding visiting athletic and debate teams. As was the case for most organizations on campus, Cardinal Key Society was out of service during the war years. One of the founding members lost his life during the war and as a tribute to his ideas of service, two former members reorganized the group in March of 1948. That April, 11 members were inducted into the Cardinal Key Society.

On March 27, 2003, 15 new members were inducted into the Cardinal Key Society in a ceremony officiated by Tilghman Moyer, vice president of development and alumni relations. New members were filled with excitement and anticipation as they received their membership certificate and pins. These members were selected from over 50 of their peers for their desire to serve the Muhlenberg community.

Members of the society are excited about the opportunities to work with alumni. They recently completed a video tour of campus, shown at Heritage Reunion, a Society newsletter spotlighting alumni and other Cardinal Key activities, and are currently planning an on-campus student/alumni event. They look forward to interacting with you at future events.

Muhlenberg Plans Memorial Site for 9/11 Victims

The 9/11 Memorial Committee, composed of students, alumni and staff, would like to announce plans for a permanent memorial in front of the Life Sports Center (LSC). The memorial tree and contemplation area will be dedicated upon completion of the LSC renovations, scheduled for fall of 2004.

In preparation for this event, we will celebrate a plaque dedication this September 11, 2003, in Egner Chapel. The plaque will honor the members of the Muhlenberg community whose lives were lost on September 11, 2001: Craig Lilore (non degree) ’94, Alan Merdinger ’92, Philip Parker ’69 and Davin Peterson ’98. Once the permanent memorial is in place, the plaque will be moved to the memorial site. Our goal is to raise $5,000 toward this project and have, to date, raised $1,500.

The Committee would like to encourage continued support to the Davin Peterson ’98 Scholarship Fund, which provides financial aid to a Muhlenberg student for study abroad.

We at Muhlenberg have not forgotten those who lost their lives on that tragic day. We continue to work to find ways to honor those individuals and their spirit.

Another Successful
Alumni in the Classroom Week!

On behalf of the alumni relations and career development offices, we'd like to thank all of the wonderful alumni and friends who helped make this spring's Alumni in the Classroom Week (AICW) such a success. The AICW program has hosted over 300 alumni who return to campus to teach classes or speak on panels. This exciting opportunity, made possible through a grant from PNC Bank, allows alumni to speak about their areas of expertise, giving students a better understanding of life “Beyond the Red Doors.”
