Muhlenberg alums in the New York and Philadelphia areas recently demonstrated how much they care about the communities in which they live by participating in CityCares events in their regions. CityCares is an international organization that supports an innovative alliance of volunteers working to build community through service and civic engagement. CityCares groups were formed in order to provide accessible volunteer opportunities for everyone – even the busy professional. For more information on CityCares, please turn to The Last Word, on page 32, to read ‘Berg alum Sherry Lynn Fazio’s ’99 essay on her experiences as a CityCares volunteer and staff member.

Clockwise from top:
• It’s a dirty job, but these volunteers are more than willing to do it in the name of the New York school children who will enjoy a cleaner park.
• A dedicated New York Cares volunteer braves a chilly autumn day to help clean up a local park.
• Raising community activism to an art form: ’Berg alumni volunteers paint a sea life mural at The School by the Sea in Far Rockaway, New York as part of N.Y. Cares Day.
