Our goal is to help as many students as possible afford a Muhlenberg education and we know financial aid is an important factor in the college choice for many families. In an effort to recognize outstanding academic achievement, Muhlenberg College has established a number of merit scholarships, talent scholarships and four honors programs. Merit scholarships range in amount from $18,000 to $35,000, talent scholarships range from $1,000-$2,000 and honors program scholarships are $5,000. All are renewable for four years at Muhlenberg, based on academic performance and good campus standing.
In addition to merit scholarships, need-based aid is available to those students who are eligible upon completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submission of any additional required documents.
Qualifying for a merit award and honors scholarship
All students who submit a complete application for admission are considered for merit scholarships and for an honors program. Merit scholarships are offered to students on the basis of strong academic performance, extracurricular commitments and positive character. Applicants are also strongly encouraged to complete an Admissions Interview, which can provide helpful context for merit scholarship and honors program consideration. Students who apply test-optional will be considered for merit scholarships as well as any of our four honors programs.
Types of Merit Awards
Merit and Honors Program Scholarship Policy
Merit scholarships at Muhlenberg College are renewable for up to a total of eight semesters, provided the recipient is in good social standing as a Full-Time and maintains the minimum GPA requirement:
- At the conclusion of a student’s first year, they need to obtain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- At the conclusion of a student’s second and third year, they need to obtain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Honors Program Scholarship renewal is contingent upon guidelines set forth by each individual program:
Scholarships are determined at the time of the admission. Decisions are based on a student’s academic performance and the rigor of their course selection throughout their high school career.
The merit scholarship amount offered is determined during the admissions process and is a fixed amount for each semester, for a maximum of eight semesters. Therefore, merit scholarships will not increase for any reason while a student is attending Muhlenberg. Any unused merit scholarship due to part-time status, withdrawal or early graduation is forfeited.
Please note that for transfer applicants, the Phi Theta Kappa scholarship is renewable for up to four semesters at Muhlenberg as long as a 3.0 GPA and good community standing are maintained.
In the event that a family’s financial situation changes, we encourage families to apply for additional need-based financial aid by completing the FAFSA.
