We want to talk with you about your goals as a musician and how we can help you achieve them. Feel free to call or e-mail one of us so we can learn of your interests and answer your questions about our program. Whatever your course of study and career goals may be, there are opportunities for you in our department.
Awards and Scholarship Opportunities
Each year the Music Department awards a number of grants to singers and instrumentalists equal to the applied music fee for one year of private lessons. In addition, the Department awards other grants and prizes to first-year students and upperclassmen. Many of these are described below.
The Woman's Auxiliary Awards: to one first-year student and one junior each year, in the amount of $500.00.
Talent Awards: awarded on the basis of competitive auditions. Renewable for four years.
The Class of 1969 Prize: a cash prize to a current student, in any class, who is the winner of a competition recital held each spring semester.
The Baker Scholarship: awarded to one or more entering first-year students who show great musical promise. Renewable for a total of four years based on continued music growth.
To qualify for those awards for which they are eligible, prospective first-year students must have a completed application on file with the Office of Admissions and must audition for members of the music faculty before March 1. Notification of awards is made by the Office of Financial Aid no later than April 15th.
On Campus Audition Dates:
- On Campus Auditions have concluded. We will accept auditions sent electronically or by U.S. Postal mail until March 1, 2018.
You are to prepare two contrasting pieces that best demonstrate your performing abilities. For vocal auditions, it is highly recommended that one of your two selections be in a foreign language.
An accompanist is available; copies of the music must be received no less than two weeks before the audition day. Instructions for submitting music will be included in the email notification with your audition time.

Auditions may be required for seating/placement only, and will generally take place during June Advising and the first week of classes. Music Ensemble registration is open to all Muhlenberg College students.
