In Fall 2011, Dr. Krista Bywater joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Sociology. Dr. Bywater comes to the department from an Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship at Grinnell College in Iowa. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2009, her dissertation entitled “Water for Life, Not for Profit: Globalization, Development, and Water Struggles in India.”

Dr. Bywater has research interests in environmental sociology, globalization studies, and development studies. She will be teaching Introduction to Sociology, Sociological Theory, and Quantitative Methods for Social Data, and will eventually be contributing courses to the sociology curriculum based on her areas of topical and regional specialization.
