Tuesday, November 29, 2011

women's basketball team The Muhlenberg women’s basketball team moved up to 13th in the first D3hoops.com poll of the 2011-12 season.

The Mules were ranked 20th in the preseason poll and have won their first four games by an average of more than 17 points. Dating back to last season, they are 14-1 in their last 15 games, with the only loss coming to 2011 national champion and current No. 1 Amherst.

This is the third straight year Muhlenberg has been ranked in the top 15 during the regular season. Last year, the Mules climbed to No. 13 after winning their first eight games, then dropped to 14th before suffering their first loss. They finished 15th in the final poll following a run to the NCAA “Sweet 16.”

In 2009-10, Muhlenberg was 10th in the preseason poll and climbed as high as No. 9 during the regular season.

Last year was not the first time the number 13 proved to be unlucky for the Mules. In 2001-02, they won their first 13 games, reaching No. 8 in the D3hoops.com poll, before falling at Swarthmore. The next game for this year’s team is at Swarthmore on Thursday.
