Volleyball Drops Pair on Second Day of Buttermaker

Freshman Joanne Josephson recorded five kills in the second set of the Salisbury match, including one to finish off the set.
The Muhlenberg volleyball team finished in third place in the 15th Buttermaker Tournament after falling to Salisbury and Elizabethtown on the second day.

Freshman Katherine Boll and sophomore Holly Hynson received all-tournament team honors. It was Hynson’s second year in a row making the all-tournament team.

Boll had 45 kills in 13 sets during the tournament, tying a school record with 22 in a three-set loss to Elizabethtown in the final match. She now leads the team with an even 100 kills for the season. Boll also had eight blocks and five aces in the four tournament matches.

Hynson tallied 24 kills and 34 digs this weekend. She now has 65 kills, good for second-best on the team behind Boll, and 92 digs, also second on the team.

After sweeping Centenary (N.J.) and Kings on the first evening of play, the Mules (6-3) fell to Salisbury in four sets. They dropped the first set, then pulled even with a win in the second. After falling behind 21-12 in the third set, they mounted a huge 9-1 run that brought them within one point, before dropping the set 25-23. Salisbury pulled ahead quickly to take the fourth set.

Salisbury went on to win the tournament, and Elizabethtown finished in second place.
