Katherine Boll Youth was the theme of the year for the Muhlenberg volleyball team, and two of its young players earned postseason recognition.

Freshmen Katherine Boll and Chelsea Kaser were named to the All-Centennial Conference second team. They are only the third and fourth Mule volleyball freshmen to earn second-team honors or better (two others received honorable mention), and they are the first pair of Mule freshmen to make the All-CC squad in the same year.

Boll (right) established herself as one of the top hitters in the CC. She ranks sixth in the CC in hitting percentage (.272) and seventh in kills per set (3.01). Boll led Muhlenberg in both of those categories and was third in blocks.

Boll’s hitting percentage was the second-best ever by a Mule freshman, and she was the first Mule freshman in 10 years to average three kills per set. She tied a school record with 22 kills in a three-set match against Elizabethtown.

Chelsea Kaser Kaser (left) was a standout on defense. The libero is sixth in the CC in digs per set (4.08) and was well on her way to breaking the school record for digs by a freshman before getting sidelined for the last four matches of the season. Kaser topped the CC with an average of 4.68 digs in league matches.

Kaser reached double figures in digs in all but four of her 24 matches and recorded at least 20 digs five times, with a high of 25 in a five-set match vs. DeSales. Her total of 343 digs tied for 15th on the program’s single-season list, and she also led Muhlenberg with 37 aces.

With a young team that included seven freshmen among its 14 players, Muhlenberg went 17-11 in 2012 – its most wins since 2008 and more than its combined win total from the previous two seasons.
