Tyler Bauer, Samantha Mayden, Stephanie Carnevale Three members of the Muhlenberg track and field teams picked up honors in advance of this weekend’s Centennial Conference Championships.

Sophomore Tyler Bauer was named CC men’s field athlete of the week for the second time this season. He broke his own school record in the javelin at the Lehigh Games, throwing 208-10 to finish first among collegiate competitors. The distance ranks as the ninth-best in Division III and the best in the CC by nearly 25 feet this year.

Two members of the women’s team, senior Samantha Mayden and junior Stephanie Carnevale, were honored at the annual Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (LVAIAW) luncheon. Founded in 1978, the LVAIAW promotes women’s sports in the spirit of collegiality among the schools in the area (Cedar Crest, DeSales, Lafayette, Lehigh, Kutztown, Moravian and Muhlenberg).

Mayden was named Muhlenberg’s outstanding athlete for the 2012-13 year. She stands a good chance of qualifying for the NCAA Championships in all three seasons. In the fall, she posted the highest finish ever by a Mule at the national cross country championships, coming in 67th. In the winter, she was part of Muhlenberg’s first female relay team to qualify for NCAAs, finishing 10th as part of the distance-medley relay team. And this spring, she currently owns the fourth-fastest time in Division III in the 5,000 meters.

Carnevale was selected as the outstanding track athlete in the Lehigh Valley, becoming only the second Mule to earn the honor. Carnevale was an All-American in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing seventh at the NCAA Championships after getting into the meet as the 15th and last qualifier. She set school records in the 60 meters, 55-meter hurdles and 60-meters hurdles during the indoor season.
