Ian Jones You could say Ian Jones has been an “X factor” for the Muhlenberg men’s lacrosse team.

After winning 75 percent of his faceoffs and picking up 19 ground balls in Mules’ first two contests, the junior midfielder was named the first Centennial Conference defensive player of the week for 2012.

Jones went 15-of-18 on the X and picked up 11 ground balls in the season-opening win over Montclair State, which has appeared in three straight NCAA Tournaments. Both of those totals are career highs for Jones and are tied for third in Mule history.

Then on Saturday, he won 9-of-14 faceoffs and picked up eight ground balls against York. He also scored the second goal of his career against the Spartans.

It’s the first CC weekly award of Jones’ career, and his 19 ground balls are tied for first in the conference.
