women's basketball team One number is considered the luckiest and the other the unluckiest. For the Muhlenberg women’s basketball team, the numbers 7 and 13 both have significance.

The Mules remained at No. 13 for the second straight week in the D3hoops.com national poll after winning three games in five days to improve their record to 7-0. Two teams ahead of the Mules (Bowdoin and Mt. Union) lost during the week and dropped, but two other teams (Williams and Greensboro) jumped them in the poll.

This is the fifth time in the last 11 years, and the second in a row, that Muhlenberg has started out a season with at least seven straight wins. Last year, the Mules won their first eight before losing at Dickinson in their first game back from the winter break. The team also got out of the gates quickly in 2006-07 (11-0), 2003-04 (10-0) and 2001-02 (13-0).

Muhlenberg has two games remaining, at Bryn Mawr (0-5) tomorrow and at Albright (2-5) on December 17 before packing it in until the new year.

In addition to getting the Mules to 7-0, last night’s win also gave them a season sweep of Lehigh Valley rivals Moravian and DeSales for the fourth time in the last seven seasons. For more on what the rivalry game means to one of the team’s top scorers, see The MuhlBox.
