Thies Named to All-America Third Team

Monday, December 2, 2013

Kayleigh Thies Kayleigh Thies of the Muhlenberg field hockey team capped her extraordinary junior season by being named to the All-America third team by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

Thies is the first NFHCA All-American in program history.

A unanimous All-Centennial Conference first-team selection, Thies was named to the All-South Region first team two weeks ago, becoming the first Mule to receive first-team all-region honors since 2004. Only two previous Muhlenberg field hockey players were first-team all-region selections, both as seniors.

Thies led Muhlenberg with 30 points on 11 goals and eight assists and ranked third in the CC with 22 points in league games. Thies led the Mules’ charge to their first playoff berth since 2007 by recording at least one point in eight straight games late in the season – the longest streak by a Mule in 15 years. She scored one goal and assisted on another in the team’s biggest win of the season, a 3-2 defeat of nationally ranked eventual CC champion Ursinus.

Thies was the first Muhlenberg player in nine years to score 30 points in a season and will enter her senior season sixth on the program’s all-time scoring list with 73 career points. She already holds the school record for career assists.
