‘Berg in Local Government (BLG) connects Muhlenberg students and nonprofit organizations and government agencies working on local issues in Allentown, Bethlehem and other Lehigh Valley cities through project-based internships. Serving with host offices in a city- or county-level department or non-profit organizations, qualified student interns assist in building more just communities in the Lehigh Valley while learning about local policy issues that impact historically marginalized populations and developing their leadership and professional skills.

Program Details:

Berg in Local Government is an internship program hosted by the Office of Multicultural Life. BLG’s mission is to engage and empower students by enhancing their knowledge about local community issues as they relate to equity and justice for historically marginalized groups. The internship seeks to improve their ability to think creatively and critically about how policy affects local problems and develop their professional skills.

The program will provide Muhlenberg students with hands-on experience and professional development invaluable to their education at Muhlenberg. BLG provides community organizations with energetic, intelligent student interns, while giving students the opportunity to learn about local issues, understand the political process of the local community, learn the necessary skills for working with government towards justice and meet with community stakeholders.
