Technologies

The following resources provide an overview of technology-related needs that will assist you as you transition to remote learning. Walk-in support services from the Office of Information Technology (OIT) have been suspended at this time, though the Student Support Desk will continue to offer assistance remotely. If you need assistance, please contact them at helpdesk@muhlenberg.edu or 484-664-3566.

Zoom

Zoom is currently in use at Muhlenberg as a webconferencing platform and option for faculty, staff, or student use. Zoom is accessed through the application portal via Muhlenberg.edu (the same area where one may access GSuite, Canvas, etc.). Google Hangouts

Hold video meetings with people inside or outside of Muhlenberg College. All G Suite customers can use advanced Hangouts Meet features, like larger meetings (up to 250 participants), live streaming, and recording.

Examples: Hold remote interviews, conduct meetings, collaborate remotely, conduct office hours and more. 

  1. Schedule a video meeting in Calendar
    1. Go to Google Calendar and create an event.
    2. Add Conferencing
    3. Select Hangouts Meet and the conferencing details will be added to the meeting. Guests will be able to Join Hangouts Meet OR Join by phone
  2. Start a video meeting from Meet
    1. In a web browser, enter https://meet.google.com.
    2. Click Start a new meeting and then Start meeting.
    3. To add someone to a meeting, choose an option:
    4. Click Copy and paste the meeting details into an email or another app.
    5. Click Add people and choose an option:
      1. Under the Invite section, enter an email address and click Send invite.
      2. Under the Call section, enter a phone number and press Call.

Are you interested in learning more about Hangouts Meet?  Visit the G Suite Learning Center for Hangouts Meet training and help or contact the Faculty/Staff Support Desk at 484-664-3566 (press 2). 

Academic Support

All academic support services, including support from learning assistants and tutors, will remain available remotely to Muhlenberg students regardless of where they are. The Dean of Academic Life is available to connect with any student having difficulty managing coursework remotely or who would like to discuss any course related concerns.  Contact Dean Deegan at micheledeegan@muhlenberg.edu.

Academic Resource Center (ARC) and Office of Disability Services (ODS)

The Academic Resource Center and the Office of Disability Services remain available to students through online services.  

The ARC is accepting tutor requests until March 27. Email arcstudent@muhlenberg.edu to request a tutor. If you already have a tutor, your tutor should have been in contact with you about continued support. For any tutor related questions, please contact David Hallowell at davidhallowell@muhlenberg.edu.

Students who work with ODS have received information about the continuation of their regularly scheduled support meetings.  Please directly contact the ODS support staff member you work with for questions or concerns.

Writing Center Online

Stuck at home and need writing help? The Writing Center is offering services remotely and will continue to offer holistic and process-based collaboration at all stages of the writing process. For questions, please contact Pierce Lockett at piercelockett@muhlenberg.edu.

Online appointments begin March 18:

  • Appointments will be offered in 30 minute slots using this sign up page. You are encouraged to sign up 24 hours in advance of your requested time, though last minute sign ups are welcome!
  • All online tutoring sessions will be held using Google Hangout using your Muhlenberg login credentials. Click here for our “Tutee Guide".

Library Resources

Resources available through the Trexler Library and our librarians remain available to assist you with research, finding sources, accessing library resources from home, using materials on reserve, or whatever other questions you may have.

Visit our Library Support for Online Classes for specific ways we can assist your coursework; additionally Trexler Library can be accessed virtually from the library homepage.

Course Withdrawal

The course withdrawal deadline has been extended to Monday, March 30. If you wish to withdraw from a class, please follow this procedure.

  1. Communicate with the instructor of the course and get his/her feedback.
  2. If you decide you want to withdraw from a course, write to the registrar@muhlenberg.edu to make the request.  Make sure to include the name of the course.
  3. Copy both the instructor of the class and your advisor on the email.  We will need their approval to process.
  4. In the email, ask the faculty to send an email to the Registrar indicating their approval.

You will receive an email from the Office of the Registrar when this process has been completed.

Course Registration

On Friday, March 27, the course schedule for Fall 2020 will become available online through the Office of the Registrar.

To allow more time for advisors and students to connect and discuss this upcoming registration period, we have postponed registration to the following dates:

Friday, April 17: Juniors, Class of 2021
Wednesday, April 22: Sophomores, Class of 2022
Tuesday, April 28: First-Years, Class of 2023
Thursday, April 30: Open Registration

Exact times of registration for each group will soon be updated on the registration time grid.  Please check back to confirm your registration time (8:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m.) on your assigned day.
