OML promotes student leadership development for the entire campus community through a number of campus-wide initiatives and programs, as well as to our eight multicultural affinity groups through organizational advising and training.
Doing Groundwork Dialogue Program:
Are you interested in promoting greater cultural awareness, competency, and understanding on campus? If so, we hope that you will consider applying to be a Doing Groundwork student facilitator!
Doing Groundwork facilitators are a small cohort of students, faculty and staff who work toward a campus community that embraces difference and the unique experiences that everyone inherently possesses. During a two-day, overnight retreat and training weekend, participants will engage in dialogue centered on topics of diversity and inclusion. Upon completion of the training, facilitators will design and facilitate workshops and presentations that can be requested by faculty, staff, and student groups.
2016-17 Doing Groundwork facilitator applications will be open September 2016.
The program seeks students, faculty, and staff who demonstrate interest in equity, social justice, and social change. Specific to students, Doing Groundwork looks for:
- Registered Muhlenberg undergraduates during Fall and Spring semesters
- Ability to commit 8-10 hours a semester to leading workshops and taking part in regular trainings
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
Facilitators will gain:
- Effective facilitation and public speaking skills
- Genuine and authentic relationships
- Deeper understanding of societal issues
- Personal development and awareness
- Language skills and tools to resist oppressive systems
Multicultural Liaison Program:
Do you enjoy building relationships? Do you have a commitment to a more diverse and equitable campus? Are you interested in facilitating positive change at Muhlenberg? If you answered yes, OML wants you to apply to become a Multicultural Liaison (MLs).
MLs are student ambassadors for the Office of Multicultural Life across the campus, and work with myriad student organizations and clubs to ensure that they are serving the needs of the entire Muhlenberg community. These positions provide students with an excellent opportunity to represent the complex interests of underrepresented community members at Muhlenberg while broadening their experiences and learning from direct participation on how decisions are made that affect organizations and the campus climate.
Affinity Group Leadership Development:
Affinity group student leaders, did you know that OML can provide you direct, formal leadership development every semester? In addition to our Fall and Spring Leadership Retreats, OML will also provide 1 leadership development session on a topic of your choice. Leadership development sessions are a great opportunity to provide new skills to your executive board or for your constituents. We’ll even take the burden off of planning a general body meeting each semester and deliver them then!

- Self-Care Workshops
- Leading Effective Meetings
- Financial Literacy Programs/Managing Your Budget
- Community Organizing
- Facilitating Cross-Cultural Dialogue
