To: Muhlenberg College Community

On behalf of the dedicated men and women of the Department of Police/Campus Safety, welcome to our web site. It is our desire to serve this campus community in a way that provides an environment that is safe and orderly, for all those who study, teach, work, and visit. In our changing society, security has become a top priority on all college campuses.  I can say without hesitation, we are as secure as any other colleges or university in the country.  In fact, we exceed in many areas.  In 2013 Muhlenberg ranked 10 as one of the safest colleges among 50 other colleges and universities in Pennsylvania. As you peruse our site, I believe that you will agree. Our Campus Safety Officers are professionals who bring years of training and expertise through prior law enforcement experiences. They all are currently sworn police officers through the Lehigh County Court of Common Pleas, having full arrest powers.  They receive on-going training and regularly practice emergency responses. Officers are all CPR and AED certified. We adhere to our core values of Integrity, Professionalism, and Service.

An email received from a parent of a prospective student regarding the security on campus really says it all.  “After our visit to Muhlenberg we were left with the image of a College that is as safe as it is academically fulfilling. A parent could ask for no more.” We have an excellent working relationship with the Allentown Police Department who has primary jurisdiction of Muhlenberg College. If we are ever in need of assistance, they can respond rapidly.  We conduct regular patrols on foot, by vehicle, on bicycle, and golf cart.  Escorts are available during the hours of darkness. As the advisor to the Muhlenberg College Emergency Medical Services, I can assure you that the dedication and quick response from the more than 30 student EMTs, is second to none.  They can provide almost immediate medical attention, while in direct contact with off-campus responders should the need arise. The men and women of the Campus Safety Department are here every hour of the day throughout the year. It is our utmost desire, along with all of the other dedicated members of the Muhlenberg College family, to assist in making your students time with us, pleasurable, rewarding, and safe. We want you to know that as you leave your student with us, we will care for them as if they were our own.
