Muhlenberg provides an attractive and comprehensive benefits package.

Muhlenberg offers robust, comprehensive health insurance plans to eligible employees and their dependents through Capital BlueCross. Options include a PPO plan (with an optional flexible spending account) or a QHDHP plan (with an optional health savings account). Eligible employees can also opt for vision benefits through Capital Blue Cross Vision and dental insurance through Delta Dental.

Full-time staff in exempt positions, scheduled to work 40 hours per week year-round, accrue 22 vacation days per year. Staff in non-exempt positions earn 15 vacation days per year for their first five years, up to 22 days per year after five years of service. Additionally, college offices are closed for 10+ holidays, including the period beginning with Christmas Eve and ending with New Year’s Day.

Eligible employees can consult with their managers if they are interested in a hybrid schedule, in a schedule that falls outside the typical 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. working hours, or in a compressed workweek.

The college offers a 403(b) retirement plan administered by TIAA. The college contributes 3% of base salary to the retirement plan following completion of the eligibility period of one year.

After a year of employment, full undergraduate tuition scholarships are available to dependents of eligible employees accepted for admission to Muhlenberg College. Those dependents also have access to the Tuition Exchange Scholarship Program to attend other institutions. Employees and their spouses are eligible for tuition remission at Muhlenberg and the other Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges (LVAIC) member institutions (Lehigh University, Lafayette College, Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, and Moravian University. Eligible employees accepted for admission to Muhlenberg’s School of Graduate Studies may receive 100% tuition remission; their spouses and dependents receive a discount.

Following the birth or adoption of a dependent child, or placement of a dependent foster child, eligible employees are eligible for leave under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). The college will provide full pay for up to eight weeks of the up to 12-week absence. Full-time faculty may choose a two-course reduction in lieu of paid time off, if desired.

College employees may enjoy full access to the Life Sports Center at no cost, including a free weights facility, expanded cardio-fitness area, swimming pool, basketball courts, indoor track, and more.  Membership is also available for an employee’s spouse, domestic partner, and/or dependent children up to age 23.

Other benefits include sick leave, bereavement leave, short- and long-term disability plans, group and optional life insurance, and more.

  • As part of the Muhlenberg community, you may be able to access adjusted rates on moving resources through E&I Cooperative Services, a purchasing cooperative serving the needs of those in the education field. If you have worked with a specific company in the past, check with the E&I representative to see if those resources are available.

Once you begin employment, you will complete most of your new hire documentation through Workday on your first day. Our office will send some additional forms you’ll need to complete in advance of your first day. In addition, please be sure to bring your identification for the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification with you on your first day of employment. Documents typically used to establish employment eligibility include your driver's license plus social security card or birth certificate, or a current passport.
