Counseling Services FAQs
What will happen during my session?
The primary focus is to assess risk, assist students in enhancing their repertoire of available coping strategies, provide students with the emotional support needed at the time/assist in identifying potential support systems, and provide referrals to other providers or crisis services if needed.
Is there a limit to counseling visits?
Students can access counseling services as many times as necessary.
How long will each counseling session take?
Sessions will last 45-50 minutes.
Is there a charge for counseling services visits?
No.
Will counseling visits be submitted to health insurance?
As there will be no charge for counseling visits, these visits will not be charged to health insurance.
How, when, and where are sessions conducted?
Counseling can be conducted either remotely, via secure video conferencing, or in person at the Counseling Center. Counseling will occur within regular business hours (8:30 a.m-4:30 p.m.) though other arrangements may be available as per agreement by the student and clinician. Students can access urgent care 24/7 after hours by calling our office at 484-664-3178.
If I choose remote counseling, what is expected of me during a remote session?
It is highly recommended that you find a distraction-free space.
Furthermore, it is expected that you give the session your full attention and avoid multitasking during the session. Headphones are often helpful, but it is important that you are aware of your surroundings to ensure the session is confidential.
Who will my counselor be?
Students may request a specific counselor with whom they have established a previous relationship or request an appointment with someone new.
What group options are offered and how can I be a part of them?
