Coming in Undecided

Coming in Undecided

Not sure what you want to study? No problem. Muhlenberg’s curriculum is designed to allow you to explore until you find your passion.

It’s Okay to Be Major-less

All new students come to Muhlenberg technically undecided. Even those students who are confident in their future path must wait until sophomore year to declare a major. Why? Because trying lots of things is the best way to be sure that what you think you want to study is actually what inspires you the most.

The liberal arts tradition encourages students to get to know a little about a lot of subjects, and Muhlenberg’s Pathways for Discovery curriculum requires it. As a new student, you’ll begin by taking courses in seven cross-disciplinary content areas. You’ll be exposed to the humanities, the natural sciences, the social sciences, and the arts. That exposure may confirm that what interested you most in high school is still your passion — or, it may introduce ideas and experiences that take you in an entirely new and unexpected direction.

Starting out undecided at Muhlenberg is actually a strength. Go into our exploration-driven curriculum with an open mind and discover what happens next.
