Teaching Interests

I love teaching just about everything in the field of psychology. I presently teach Introductory Psychology and Abnormal Psychology, and am interested in creating courses around sexual and gender identity and qualitative research methodologies. My teaching is underpinned by the belief that attending to students’ holistic selves is an important aspect of educational wellness. By attending to their various intersecting identities, I can create well-rounded, affirming relationships with my students that can help them succeed in academia.

Research and Scholarship

My scholarship focuses on decreasing the systemic barriers that trans and nonbinary (TNB) individuals experience by de-pathologizing the lived experiences of this population. My approach to research focuses on community based, non-clinical samples that are analyzed through qualitative frameworks. My work is informed by social justice principles and centers the experiences of TNB individuals in ways that directly align with their lived experiences.

I am interested in deeply understanding the lives and experiences of TNB individuals in two distinct ways: (1) the social relationships of TNB individuals and (2) the psycho-medical experiences of TNB individuals.

Regarding the social relationships of TNB individuals, I am interested in the nuances of romantic relationships and friendships, and utilize a microaggressions/microaffirmations framework in order to ask and answer questions about these relationships. I am currently studying how social interactions function within the context of work settings for TNB individuals.

I also study the psycho-medical experiences of TNB individuals, particularly the experiences of Gender Dysphoria and reproductive healthcare. I am currently studying ways that reproductive healthcare providers can provide more affirming services to transmasculine participants.
