The Writing Program
Committed to writing as an essential skill in the liberal arts --- and in life
How We Teach Writing
Writing across the curriculum is a key tenet of Muhlenberg’s ethos. Writing is an essential way of acquiring knowledge and of arriving at ideas about it. And, crucially, the ability to write well cannot be developed in a single semester.
Muhlenberg offers a cross-curricular writing program in which faculty from almost every department participate. In order to graduate, students are required to pass a minimum of two officially designated writing-intensive courses: one first-year seminar and one writing-intensive course in the student’s major (one in each major, for double majors)
The Writing Center
Muhlenberg’s writing program is supported by the Writing Center, which is staffed by trained peer tutors with majors in a wide range of disciplines.
