The media and communication and film studies double major is building toward a future in the music industry.

Like many music-minded Mules who came before her, Lindsay Batzar ’26 has essentially declared WMUH an unofficial major. She has been a DJ with the station since her first semester, has worked as its music director and event coordinator, and currently serves as its program director.

“I’ve been wanting to work in the music industry for the longest time, but I always considered it a pipe dream,” says Batzar, a media and communication and film studies double major and French minor. “When I came to Muhlenberg, I began getting involved in music-related activities for fun, which quickly transitioned into career experience.”

In addition to her executive board positions with the radio station, she coordinates the annual student-run music festival, Muhlapalooza. Those experiences helped her get industry-related internships, which paved the way for her recent experience at the Grammy Awards.

Emma Ash ’24, a media and communication major and fellow WMUHer, told Batzar about GRAMMY U, a branch of the Recording Academy dedicated to emerging industry professionals. Batzar joined as an ambassador last fall. Through that, she applied and was accepted as a volunteer at the Grammy Awards.

During the week up to and including the awards, she volunteered for programs including a panel about AI in the music industry, the GRAMMY U Soundstage music festival, and the official Grammy Awards after party. The week allowed her to build her network and work toward her dream career.

“Beyond Muhlenberg, I hope to have an artist-facing role in the music industry,” she says. “I’m passionate about connecting artists to audiences and helping support these artists throughout their careers.”
