Helping Roman Catholic students deepen their faith
Our Spaces
The Newman Center
A home away from home for Catholic students, The Newman Center (2339 West Liberty Street), named after Saint John Henry Newman, is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The center offers a chapel with the Blessed Sacrament reserved for adoration and prayer; snacks, tea, and coffee; cable TV and Wi-Fi; and a full kitchen. Contact the Newman Center at 484-664-3122.
Egner Chapel
The Gideon F. Egner Chapel, located in the heart of the Muhlenberg College campus, is regarded by architectural historians as one of the finest examples of the "collegiate gothic" style in America. Sunday mass is celebrated in Egner Chapel at 8 p.m. when college is in session. Confessions are heard 7:30-7:50 p.m. Students can find a complete mass schedule on BergConnect.
Volunteer Opportunities
Music Ministry
The music ministry encourages the congregation's "full, conscious and active participation" in the Newman Center liturgical life of the church, especially as it pertains to music. We work to create a holy environment in which all recognize the real presence of Christ, in the proclamation of the Word and in the Eucharist. Music aids in the spiritual life of the faithful and can foster a spirit of reverence. There are opportunities for singers and instrumentalists. Please email Andrew Trautmann for more information.
Altar Servers and Lectors
An altar server assists the priest with the missal (the book of prayers of the mass) and the preparation of the altar. A lector is the person who proclaims the first or second reading or leads the prayers of the faithful at mass. Please email Genevieve O'Connor for more information.
