How to Transfer to Muhlenberg College as a Full-Time Student

Each semester we enroll transfer students who have demonstrated academic achievement in high school and college, quality of character, and the potential to contribute to our community in meaningful ways.

The Office of Admissions works with transfer students from the ages of 18 to 23 who are applying to become traditional, full-time students on campus.

Muhlenberg’s School of Continuing Studies works with part-time students and full-time adult students (over the age of 23).

Note: The deadlines for international students are recommended to allow enough time for visa processing.

Admissions decisions are released on a rolling basis after your application is complete. If applying for financial aid, we request that completed financial aid paperwork (filing your FAFSA) is submitted with your application so we can provide a complete financial aid package with your admissions decision.

Required Materials

1. Submit the Common Application for Transfer

You may apply online. There is no fee to complete your application.

If you applied to Muhlenberg within the last year, we can reopen your previous application with us. Please email us at [email protected] with your request.

2. Request official high school transcript (for students with fewer than 8 course units / 24 credit hours)

The high school transcript will be waived for students who have completed 8 college course units (equivalent to 24 credit hours) or more at the point of application.

Students with fewer than 8 course units (24 credit hours) must provide an official high school transcript showing the graduation date.

3. Request official college/university transcript(s) from all institutions attended

To review your application, we require an unofficial college transcript. Official separate transcripts from each college/university you have attended are required.

If enrolling at Muhlenberg, you must send official college transcripts to Muhlenberg directly from your college’s document management system. We cannot accept official transcripts from students directly for verification purposes.

4. If you’re applying as an international student, submit additional required materials

These additional materials include:

  • A Certificate of Finances Form, which is located in your Application Status Portal once you submit your application. This form should take 5-10 minutes to complete and does not require any banking documentation.
  • An English Language Proficiency test. Muhlenberg accepts TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test (DET) to fulfill this requirement. Scores must be sent directly by the testing center; we cannot accept score reports directly from applicants. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency by meeting the following minimums:
    • DET: 115
    • IELTS: 6.5
    • TOEFL: 85
    • You may be exempt from taking an English Language Proficiency test if:
      • Your native or first language is English
      • Your college’s primary language of instruction is English, and you have attended English language schooling for more than three years (these will be assessed on a case-by-case basis)
      • If you wish to be TOEFL/IELTS/DET, please fill out the exemption request form in your Application Status Portal

4. Submit any additional information requested by the Office of Admissions

The Office of Admissions reserves the right to request additional information from the applicant at any time during the admissions and enrollment process.

Recommended Materials

  • Course descriptions of previous college coursework
    • While not required for admission to Muhlenberg, this information may be requested after a student is admitted to Muhlenberg to conduct a credit evaluation. Muhlenberg will compile these course descriptions initially, but we may reach out for additional information from the student should we need it. We recommend that you have a copy of your course descriptions should it be needed for your credit evaluation.
  • Course Syllabi of previous college coursework
    • While not required for admission to Muhlenberg or for the credit evaluation, some departments may request course syllabi if the course description does not provide enough information about the course for the credit evaluation. We recommend that you have a copy of each course syllabus should it be needed for your credit evaluation.
  • AP/IB Score Reports
    • While not required for admission to Muhlenberg, we will need your AP/IB score reports to award credit for any AP or IB courses taken in high school. Please have these scores sent directly from the College Board or International Baccalaureate to Muhlenberg.

We review all applications holistically. Important factors include maintaining good academic progress at your current institution (the average GPA of admitted students is 3.0), character, and the potential to contribute to our community in meaningful ways.

Once admitted to Muhlenberg, we will be able to provide you with a review of your college course work to determine which classes will transfer to Muhlenberg. Next steps to receive a credit evaluation will be sent to you in your admissions letter.

A new transfer policy has created a seamless pathway for community college graduates to earn Muhlenberg bachelor’s degrees. Under this agreement, graduates holding an Associate of Arts (A.A.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) degree from any regionally accredited community college can now transfer directly into Muhlenberg’s residential or accelerated degree completion programs.

Yes — in addition to the merit scholarships and need-based financial aid (determined by completing the FAFSA) available to all students, transfer students accepted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) are awarded a $5,000 per year merit scholarship.

Two members of our admissions staff are dedicated to assisting transfer applicants. Before beginning classes, transfer students participate in an orientation program specifically designed for their transition from another institution. Each student is also paired with an academic advisor who will guide them through the process of registering for classes.
