Washington Monthly judges institutions based on their contribution to the public good. The college ranked in the top 20% of all Northeast institutions for value and in the top quarter of liberal arts colleges in the nation.

The publication also ranked Muhlenberg #70 out of 376 institutions in the Northeast on its 2024 Best Bang for the Buck Rankings. This list ranks schools “according to how well they help non-wealthy students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices.”

Muhlenberg is part of the American Talent Initiative, a group of colleges working collaboratively to expand access and opportunity for highly talented lower-income students, and 35% of the college’s Class of 2028 is eligible for Pell Grants, far surpassing Muhlenberg’s American Talent Initiative goal of 20% for incoming classes.

Muhlenberg was also ranked #49 out of 194 liberal arts colleges in the nation on Washington Monthly’s 2024 list. The ratings are calculated, per the publication’s website, “based on [each institution’s] contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility, research and providing opportunities for public service.”

Muhlenberg was the eighth-best liberal arts college in Pennsylvania, according to the rankings. The college also ranked #28 among U.S. liberal arts colleges for social mobility.
