Muhlenberg College has been named one of the top higher education institutions in the nation, securing the #198 spot on the inaugural TIME America’s Best Colleges 2026-2027 list.

Created in partnership with data research firm Statista, the new ranking evaluates the top 500 colleges in the United States to highlight institutions that provide the exceptional educational value, strong learning environments, and proven student outcomes.

Using data from the U.S. Department of Education’s IPEDS and College Scorecard, the TIME and Statista methodology heavily prioritizes long-term success — including graduate earnings,  financial payoff of attending an institution relative to its cost, and graduation rate — valuing student outcomes at 75%, learning environment at 15%, and attractiveness to students at 10%.

Proving the Value of a Liberal Arts Education

National data shows Muhlenberg’s liberal arts approach yields stellar financial and career outcomes across every discipline — including the arts, humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, business, and pre-professional programs.

Analysis of U.S. Department of Education data by the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce reveals that the value of a Muhlenberg bachelor’s degree ranks higher than 80% of degrees earned at all 4,600 public, private, non-profit, and for-profit U.S. institutions by 15 years post-graduation. Over time, that return increases significantly, placing Muhlenberg in the top 10% nationally for ROI at the 20-, 30-, and 40-year marks.

Built for Student Success

Muhlenberg’s high ROI ratings reflect the value in its commitment to pairing a rigorous curriculum with immersive, experiential learning and comprehensive personalized support:

  • Comprehensive Advising: Beginning in their first semester, students are paired with a dedicated career counselor and a college life coach alongside their academic faculty advisor. One-on-one career coaching remains accessible throughout their entire college journey, as well as after graduation.
  • High Retention: 90% of first-year Muhlenberg students return for their second year, far outpacing the national average of 58%.
  • Strong Graduation Rates: Muhlenberg boasts an 82% graduation rate, significantly exceeding the 58% national average for four-year colleges.

“To be recognized in the top 200 of TIME’s inaugural list validates what our community has long known: a Muhlenberg education delivers real, lasting value,” said Provost Laura Furge, Ph.D. “By supporting our students from day one with dedicated mentorship and hands-on learning, we prepare them to thrive both during their time on campus and throughout their professional careers.”
