Indigenous Initiatives
Explore the ways Muhlenberg College seeks to honor and mark the history of the Lenape people, who occupied the campus land long before Muhlenberg's founding.
At Muhlenberg College, we recognize the profound significance of the land on which our campus is built. This land is part of Lenapehoking, the traditional homelands of the Lenape people. Through learning, research, and engagement, the Muhlenberg community has sought to deepen its understanding of Lenape history and culture, as well as the histories and cultures of other Indigenous peoples.
The Hitékw Project
A student-led project documenting and honoring the Indigenous ecology and history of Muhlenberg’s campus. The existing project page explains that students inventoried more than 700 trees, worked with the Delaware Nation and Muhlenberg faculty and staff, developed updated signage, and connected the project to Tree Campus designation.
