Student Summer Grants

Explore the funding possibilities available to students interested in pursuing research or creative work over the summer.

Muhlenberg students have the opportunity to apply for funding to conduct undergraduate research or pursue creative projects during the summer months. These grants are intended for students who plan to engage in work that will lead to publication, presentation, exhibition, or performance.

Grant Award Details

Student Summer Grants

Each student awarded a grant will receive a $3,000 stipend for eight weeks of research, one course-unit of research or independent study, and campus housing (or half the stipend and credit for four weeks). Awardees participate in the summer research community and present in the Celebration of Student Research, Scholarship, and Creative Work poster session during Alumni Weekend. Students may not have other obligations (such as paid employment or course work) during the period of the grant. Grants to support the material costs of student projects are also available.

Application Information

Students interested in applying should speak with a faculty mentor and confirm their commitment to oversee the project. The application is to be written by the student and reviewed by the faculty sponsor. Applications are due in late February, with recipients notified in late March.

If you plan to do research with human subjects, you will need Muhlenberg College Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval. Getting IRB approval can be a time-consuming process and must be started early.

Student Summer Grants

Any applicant proposing a project outside the U.S. must meet with the dean of global education to complete additional required forms. Such students will be required to purchase international health and travel insurance.
