Student Mail and Packages
Need help finding your mailbox?
Watch this short video for a walkthrough of where student mailboxes are located and how to open your campus mailbox. Students who still need assistance may contact the Mailroom at [email protected] or visit the Mailroom lobby with your Muhlenberg ID.
Muhlenberg College students who live on campus or in a M.I.L.E. house receive mail and packages through the Muhlenberg College Mailroom. Students are assigned a campus mailbox number that should be used on all mail and package deliveries.
How should student mail and packages be addressed?
Please use the following format for all student mail and packages:
[First Name] [Middle Initial] [Last Name]
Mailbox #_____
Muhlenberg College Mailroom
2400 Chew Street
Allentown, PA 18104-5586
To help avoid delays, please include the student’s middle initial and mailbox number. Some students have the same first and last names, and the mailbox number helps the Mailroom identify the correct recipient.
Do not address student mail as a “P.O. Box.” Student mailboxes are campus mailboxes, not post office boxes. Mail addressed to a P.O. Box may not be delivered.
Mail may also be delayed or returned to the sender if it includes:
- A missing mailbox number
- A residence hall name or room number instead of the mailbox number
- A nickname instead of the student’s legal name
- A parent’s name instead of the student’s name
- Illegible handwriting
- Incomplete or incorrect address information
Important Mailroom Information
Where are student mailboxes located?
Student mailboxes are located on the lower level of Seegers Union. Full-time students living on campus are assigned a mailbox number when they arrive at Muhlenberg. In most cases, students keep the same mailbox number until they graduate.
Students should check their mailboxes regularly and make sure their mailboxes are locked properly after each use.
How do students get their mailbox combinations?
Mailbox combinations are not given out over the phone.
Students can find their mailbox combination by logging into the Housing site and looking under their information. Students may also visit the mailroom lobby in person and present their Muhlenberg ID to receive their combination.
Students having trouble operating the combination lock should contact the mailroom at [email protected] to arrange for assistance.
How is student mail delivered during the academic year?
During the academic year, incoming letters are delivered daily to student mailboxes in Seegers Union.
Outgoing letter mail with proper postage may be placed in the “US Mail” slot near the student mailboxes. Students should include a return address on outgoing mail.
Students who need postage for an outgoing letter or package should visit the mailroom lobby.
How do students pick up packages?
Mailroom staff deliver student packages to the mailroom for pickup. Students must pick up their own packages at the mailroom lobby, located in the General Services Building behind the Haas College Center.
Students should wait until they receive a package notification through their Muhlenberg email before coming to pick up a package. This notification means the package has been processed and is ready.
Students must bring their Muhlenberg ID when picking up packages.
Because storage space is limited, students are encouraged to pick up packages within five business days of receiving their notification.
Can parents or family members send time-sensitive packages?
Yes, but time-sensitive items should be sent carefully.
For overnight, rushed or time-sensitive deliveries, the mailroom recommends using FedEx or UPS rather than the United States Postal Service, commonly known as USPS. FedEx and UPS deliver directly to campus. If a signature is required, the mailroom can accept the package for the student.
USPS does not deliver directly to campus. Muhlenberg picks up college mail from USPS on weekday mornings, which can affect delivery timing.
For sensitive items, such as passports, FedEx or UPS is strongly recommended. When possible, choose morning delivery and Monday–Friday delivery so the package arrives while the mailroom is open.
What happens to student mail during winter and summer break?
Students who remain on campus during winter or summer break must complete the appropriate registration forms (below). Here are some important notes about mail received over break:
- First-class mail will be forwarded to the student. All other mail will be kept on campus until the students’ return.
- First-class mail for graduating students will be forwarded for up to three months.
- Packages will be returned to sender unless the student has made prior arrangements with the mailroom.
