Student Employment
Muhlenberg’s Student Employment Program gives students the opportunity to earn money while building valuable professional experience. Through on-campus jobs, students develop transferable skills, gain workplace confidence, and make meaningful connections that support future career goals.
The program is designed for flexibility, allowing students to find jobs that fit into their schedules and interests. Job openings are posted on Handshake and can be accessed through BergConnect.
Student Employment Opportunities
Student employment provides the opportunity to gain meaningful experience, build professional skills, and earn money to help offset college expenses. Most positions are on campus and designed to be flexible around class schedules.
Muhlenberg offers two types of student employment through financial aid:
- Federal Work-Study (CWS) – Federally funded positions for students with demonstrated financial need.
- Muhlenberg College Employment (MCE) – College-funded positions for students not eligible for Federal Work-Study.
Eligibility for either program is determined by the Office of Financial Aid. Job availability is not guaranteed, and students are responsible for applying to open positions through Handshake (accessible via OneLogin).
Federal Work-Study (CWS)
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Must be a full-time undergraduate student
- Must submit a valid FAFSA and demonstrate financial need
- Must meet and maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress
Muhlenberg College Employment (MCE)
- Must be a full-time undergraduate student
- Must meet and maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress
Students may hold one CWS or MCE position at a time, unless approved otherwise by the Office of Financial Aid.
Students who are not eligible for Federal Work-Study or MCE may still apply for part-time campus jobs directly through individual departments. Examples include:
- Academic Resource Center (ARC) Tutors
- Writing Center Staff
- Admissions Tour Guides
- Resident Advisors (RAs)
- Polling Institute Assistants
Contact the hiring department for application details.
All job openings are listed on Handshake. Check regularly—positions are posted throughout the year, especially in July–August for fall roles and November–January for spring.
Students without Federal Work-Study or MCE eligibility will not see work-study–only listings in Handshake.
- Tier I: $9.25/hr
- Tier II: $11.00/hr
- Tier III: $13.00/hr
Pay tiers are based on job responsibilities and determined by the Office of Human Resources.
Students typically work up to 10 hours per week. Work-study students generally earn up to $2,000 per year, averaging 7.5 hours per week across two semesters.
Before starting a job, students must:
- Provide original I-9 identification documents (photocopies not accepted)
- Complete all required employment forms (W-4, Direct Deposit, Confidentiality Agreement, etc.) sent via AdobeSign
Note: Students cannot begin working until all forms are submitted and processed.
