Teaching Interests

I love teaching and learning languages. At Muhlenberg College I teach primarily Italian language courses, as well as French language courses. Prior to teaching at this college, I taught Italian and French at the University of Pennsylvania, at Drexel University and at Wesleyan University. My language classrooms are very interactive, communicative, and infused with cultural exploration.

I also love to teach about food: I created and teach the course “EATalians in the Kitchen” with my colleague in Chemistry, Dr. Keri Colabroy. This is a cultural as well as an experiential course, which delves into the history of Italian food, while students experiment in the lab and make Italian staples.

In spring 2023 I led a group of Muhlenberg students on a semester abroad in Florence, where I taught the course ”Memory and Memories of WWII in Italy.” It was a beautiful experience.

I co-created (together with my colleague, Prof. Daniel Leisawitz) a fully-fledged Open Educational Resource for elementary Italian students. I’m also the author of a fully-fledged Open Educational Resource for intermediate Italian students.

Research and Scholarship

I continue to further my knowledge of intercultural communication to help my students get the most out of my courses: developing communicative skills in another language, while delving into the cultures that the people who speak that language live and create every day is such an enriching and worthwhile journey!
