Teaching Interests
I teach in the accounting and economics programs. My overarching teaching goal is to equip students with knowledge and techniques that will allow them to interpret and evaluate economic activity and to communicate that analysis with professionalism.
My students routinely connect course material to current events and career goals. They create reports and make presentations using up-to-date, real-world data and current technology.
Outside of the classroom, I assist academic advisees with advice, support and supervision for internships, job market participation and certification in accounting. This guidance is an extension of my teaching mission and facilitates the translation of academic achievement into career success.
Research and Scholarship
My doctoral research is in the area of organizational economics, with a focus on the wine industry. That research has broadened to apply the theory of the firm to various industries where long-term contracting may serve as an efficient alternative to vertical integration.
I have pursued a secondary line of research that examines the economics of marketing. I have shown how product-labeling conventions and regulations affect the way that consumers use product information and the way producers organize production. I have conducted additional research in the economics of “bundling,” as it relates to the seller’s ability to price-discriminate by selling combinations of multiple products at a single price.
In the field of accounting, I have developed expertise in the allocation of indirect costs and provided litigation support and expert testimony on that subject.
