Why applied artificial intelligence matters:
Artificial intelligence is reshaping how organizations operate, innovate, and compete. From automation and predictive analytics to natural language processing and intelligent systems, AI now drives decision-making across industries including healthcare, finance, logistics, and technology.
As adoption accelerates, employers need professionals who understand how AI systems are built, evaluated, and deployed responsibly. That means technical fluency in programming, algorithms, and machine learning—paired with the judgment to address bias, privacy, and long-term impact.
At the intersection of engineering and ethics, Muhlenberg’s applied AI program prepares professionals to connect technical decisions to real-world outcomes.
How finishing your degree at Muhlenberg can propel you forward:
The accelerated Bachelor of Arts in applied artificial intelligence is built for adult learners ready to complete their degree while developing strong technical expertise.
Delivered fully online in a structured, cohort-based format, the program combines foundational programming and mathematics with advanced study in machine learning, neural networks, reinforcement learning, natural language processing, and AI systems design. You’ll learn how to build, evaluate, and integrate AI systems in real organizational contexts.
Responsible AI is woven throughout the curriculum, culminating in a multidisciplinary capstone project that applies your skills to a complex, real-world challenge.

The applied artificial intelligence program is structured around 15 five-week modules and one ten-week multidisciplinary capstone project. Courses are delivered synchronously online in a cohort format designed for working adults.
Core areas of study include:
Programming Concepts I & II (Python)
Discrete Mathematics for AI I & II
Data Structures & Algorithms for AI
Responsible AI: Ethics, Policy, and Society
AI & Machine Learning I & II
Neural Networks & Deep Learning
Reinforcement Learning
Applied Natural Language Processing
AI Systems Design
Analytical Thinking and Decision Making
Communication and Professional Business Writing
Multidisciplinary Capstone Project
Throughout the curriculum, you’ll build the ability to develop, test, and optimize AI-related software solutions; apply mathematical reasoning to computational problems; design scalable AI systems; and evaluate ethical and regulatory considerations in real-world environments.
Learning in the applied artificial intelligence program is hands-on, collaborative, and project-driven. Weekly synchronous sessions support active discussion and problem-solving, while assignments emphasize implementation and evaluation of working AI models and systems.
The capstone experience challenges students to identify a real organizational problem and design viable, supported solutions using the technical tools and analytical frameworks developed throughout the program.
By the time you graduate, you’ll have experience working across the full AI lifecycle—from problem definition and data preparation to model development, evaluation, deployment, and ethical review—preparing you to contribute thoughtfully and effectively in AI-driven environments.

We're in a climate now where folks are starting to feel like a college degree is not quite as worth it, and I just disagree with that notion wholeheartedly, because I know what my adult path looked like before I got a college degree and what it looked like after.”Listen to Boateng's Story
