“On the Edge,” a solo exhibition of drawings and paintings by Carol Heft, lecturer in art at Muhlenberg College, will be shown at the Blue Mountain Gallery, 530 West 25th Street, 4th floor, in New York City. The exhibition will open January 28, 2003, with an opening reception Thursday, January 30, 5-8 p.m., and will run through February 22. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 12 noon – 6 p.m.

An innovative sense of design and adventurous approach to materials make this Carol Heft’s most interesting exhibition to date. Her asymmetrical compositions are interdependent with her personal iconography. The work glows, moves, and beckons the imagination. Heft demonstrates her versatility with a wide range of playful color relationships, scale and transcendent use of two-dimensional space. Included in the show are a several compelling figure studies that create an interesting dialogue between the traditional and non-traditional elements in the artist’s work.

Carol Heft is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, and has lived and worked in New York since 1976. This is her fifth solo exhibition in New York.
