German Press Official To Speak At Muhlenberg College

Dr. Werner Schmidt will offer "The German Elections of 2002: What it Means for Germany and German-American Relations," Thursday, October 17, 7 p.m., at the Hoffman House, 325 N. 23rd Street on the Allentown campus.

Schmidt earned his M.A. and Ph.D. at the Free University of Berlin, where he studied political science and served as a Fulbright Scholar at the New School for Social Research in New York. He is press officer of the German Information Center and the German Consulate General in New York City, where he has been since 1999. Previously, he spent nine years working for the German Government's Press and Information Office in Bonn, where he was news editor and then deputy director for North America, NATO and the U.N.

The lecture is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by the department of languages, literatures and cultures.
