Dr. Robert Jensen will present a lecture at Muhlenberg College on Wednesday, October 2, 7:30 p.m., in Miller Forum, Moyer Hall. His lecture is titled "Imperial Journalism: The Failures of the U.S. News Media after 9/11." The lecture is free and open to the public.

Jensen will share his perspective on how journalism operates, and how activists can get their voices heard in the press. He will also address the difficulties of finding a space for alternative views on controversial issues in mainstream media.

Jensen is Associate Professor in the School of Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin. He is the author of "Writing Dissent: Taking Radical Ideas from the Margins to the Mainstream," co-author of "Pornography: The Production and Consumption of Inequality," and co-editor of "Freeing the First Amendment: Critical Perspectives on Freedom of Expression."

In addition to teaching and writing, Jensen has devoted a great deal of his time as a working journalist, and his commentaries and op-eds appear regularly in various newspapers, journals, and websites throughout the nation. He also remains an active participant in public debates concerning peace, justice, and equality.

This lecture is sponsored by the Communication Department, Public Engagement Project, and Center for Ethics at Muhlenberg College.
