One record was just missed, one record was made, and Muhlenberg College had another strong year on the admissions front. After six consecutive record-large applicant pools, the College just missed a seventh consecutive record this year with 3,822 applicants, just below last year's record total of 3,892.

The College set its ninth straight record for early decision applications, 527 versus 517 last year. Muhlenberg solidified its position among "highly selective" colleges, as it enjoyed a 35% acceptance rate for the second consecutive year. Quality indices also took more steps forward this year. The all-inclusive combined SAT profile topped 1200 at 1201 (up from 1194 last year), and 38% of the incoming class comes from the top tenth of the high school class (up from 37% a year ago).

"The numbers are very good, but the people are even better," said Dean of Admission and Financial Aid Christopher Hooker-Haring. "This class will bring an energy and a range of extracurricular accomplishment in addition to strong numbers that will make the next four years an exciting time to be at the College.”

The Class of 2006 came in on target, with 550 first year students expected to be on campus this fall.

Muhlenberg’s momentum on the admissions front has been fueled, in recent years, by a carefully defined institutional personality emphasizing excellent teaching, deep caring for students, and its new character initiative.
As part of an aggressive building campaign in the past four years, the College has constructed the Trexler Pavilion for Theatre and Dance; a new outdoor athletic complex including a soccer stadium, a new all-weather track, and Scotty Wood Stadium and Frank Marino Field; two spectacular new residence halls; and Moyer Hall, a new Academic Center. Plans are underway for a new student Union and major renovations to the Life Sports Center, including recreational, fitness, health and counseling centers.
