Muhlenberg IJCU Hosts Discussion Of Sabbath

The Institute for Jewish-Christian Understanding of Muhlenberg College presents the opening discussion in the First Friday, Winter 2002-2003 series, Friday, December 6, 11:45 a.m-1 p.m., in Seegers Union 108-110. The topic will be “Far from the Madding World: The Need for Sabbath Time.” The program is free and registration is not required. Participants may bring their own lunch or buy it in Seegers Union; drinks will be available for purchase in the room.

Cantor Ellen Sussman of Congregation Keneseth Israel and Pastor Judith Helm of Nativity Lutheran Church of Allentown will address the benefits and challenges of the third/fourth commandment, to keep one holy day each week. Jewish practice and interpretation, as well as Christian understanding and adaptation, will also be highlighted.

The Institute for Jewish-Christian Understanding seeks to build an understanding of both the common roots and the diverse expressions of Judaism and Christianity, creating connections between Jews and Christians.
